Why Native CAD to Monte Carlo?
Challenges of Traditional CSG and Meshing Approaches: In radiation transport simulations, the process usually begins with creating a detailed CAD model. However, this model encounters a critical decision point: it must be converted into Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) or transformed through tetrahedral meshing. Each option has its drawbacks. CSG conversion can lead to faster simulations, but it’s time consuming and fails to fully harness the potential of modern CAD software. Tetrahedral meshing, aiming for precision, often falls short due to its approximate nature and slower computational performance. Both approaches necessitate significant time investments to ensure the model is “water-tight,” crucial for preventing lost particles during simulation.
This process leads to prolonged preparation times, especially when it comes to modeling design changes, exploring parameter spaces, or optimising designs. The need for a solution that bridges the gap between detailed CAD design and efficient, accurate Monte Carlo simulations is evident, this is where Tempest’s Native CAD to Monte Carlo approach steps in.
Tempest’s Native CAD to Monte Carlo: Tempest is innovatively designed to overcome the limitations of standard radiation transport solutions. By employing direct ray tracing on CAD models, Tempest eliminates the need for CSG conversion or complex geometry meshing. This approach not only accelerates preparation time but also maintains the integrity of the original design, leading to enhanced accuracy in radiation transport simulations. Leveraging cutting-edge software development techniques, Tempest directly integrates with Cyclone providing a streamlined, precise, and efficient solution for radiation simulations.
Tempest’s use of native CAD is unique, we are looking for companies and individuals interested in beta testing to influence ongoing development.
