Cyclone Sage at ANS NCSD 2025!

Cyclone Sage at ANS NCSD 2025!

We’re delighted to announce that our colleague Daniel Cork will be presenting on Cyclone Sage™ at the ANS Nuclear Criticality Safety Division (NCSD) 2025 topical meeting in Austin, Texas on September 16th.

What is Cyclone?

Cyclone is a tool developed to streamline the process of building, editing, and visualising MCNP models. It provides an integrated environment with syntax-aware editing, parameterisation tools, and 3D geometry visualisation. The goal is to make it easier for nuclear professionals to prepare complex simulations with confidence. Cyclone is already used for both radiation shielding and criticality safety applications, reducing manual errors and saving time compared to traditional input deck creation.

Why Sage?

Creating MCNP input decks is notoriously complex, especially for criticality safety scenarios involving intricate geometries, fissile materials, and reflection conditions. Small mistakes can have big consequences, and even experienced users often spend hours fine-tuning inputs.

That’s where Cyclone Sage comes in. Sage acts as an AI “co-pilot” inside Cyclone, allowing users to describe scenarios in plain language. It then guides them through the details, generates parameterised MCNP inputs based on validated templates, and presents them within Cyclone’s editor and 3D visualiser. The result is a significant boost in efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility - helping new users learn faster while enabling experts to focus on analysis rather than syntax.

Daniel’s Talk

At NCSD 2025, Daniel will present how Cyclone Sage is being applied to criticality safety calculations, building on earlier work in shielding analysis. The talk will cover Sage’s methodology, practical workflows, and examples of how it can simplify criticality assessments. He will also share a look ahead at how Sage will grow to support more complex scenarios, parametric studies, and automated checks.

If you’ll be at NCSD 2025 in Austin, we encourage you to attend Daniel’s session and see how Cyclone Sage is shaping the future of MCNP workflows.
